Stained Glass Windows
I began working in stained glass a decade ago and am completely captivated by it. Like ceramics it requires a mastery of materials and specialized tools, as well as great patience through the various stages of completion. I tend to spend a lot of time creating full windows, mostly of floral and landscape designs but sometimes geometric abstract designs as well.
Glass Jewelry and Suncatchers
I have never like wasting all the little scraps generated when I make bigger windows, so I turn them into jewelry or little suncatcher designs like flowers and ornaments. One of the projects I enjoyed the most is the chains of scraps I turned into an outdoor screen on my front porch.
My Stained Glass Process
I primarily do copper foil stained glass, and I usually sketch out patterns or draft them in Illustrator. I really love working outside since it's cleaner for my home but also because you can really see how the class will react to light. It's an art form that is so shaped by the light itself, so working in natural light can be really helpful.
